The Performance Learning Center model was developed by Communities in Schools of Georgia. the PLC incorporates Communities in Schools’ caring philosophy and approach which combines strong personal relationships between staff and students with an intense focus on academic achievement.

Here are some of the highlights from our work through the PLC:

Focus Graduation

As the school year is winding down, students will be doing End of Course Testing in May. To ensure our students are prepared, FG is starting an EOCT Prep every Wednesday and Thursday at both Brunwisk High and Glynn Academy.

Communities in Schools of Glynn County met with High School Graduation Coaches in June of 2008 in order to identify upcoming 9th graders who were most at risk of dropping out during the course of high school.

Throughout the 2008-2009 school year, a framework was designed to initiate community support and overcome barriers facing the students.

Communities in Schools of Glynn works closely with administration, staff, and parents in order to encourage these at-risk students. School supplies are provided whenever needed family support is offered and social awareness is fostered. Mentoring and tutoring are available routinely each school week.

To date, we have seen gains exceeding both state and local levels in academics, behavior, and attendance. All of our participating FG students are enrolled in tenth grade courses for the 2009-2010 school year.
